Awang Tengah's Statement:-
"pending the outcome of feasibility studies which would comprehensively address technical, commercial, social and environmental issues, at least five more hydropower plants and one or two coal projects would be developed by 2020 to meet the projected demand."
Hydropower projects will continue to be implemented in Sarawak based on demand
The state(Sarawak) was planning to implement more dam projects to meet the immediate needs and future projected growth.
Sarawak Energy Berhad needed to build up an additional 6,400MW by 2020 from its current capacity of 1,250MW.
“Hence, additional power plants are required to be developed through sustainable harnessing of our huge protential resources and coal reserves.
“The harnessing of these indigenous resources, providing competively priced energy, will attract global industries to the state, thereby propelling the achievement of a high income economy and developed state status by 2020,”
